He is normally excited about breakfast and shoves his face into the bucket of nuts before I can place it on the ground. This particular morning he didn't, he mooched around and gingerly tried to pick out the feed. Poor UBF had a big slice in his lip, it was actually hanging off and looked quite alarming. He managed, with great courage and determination to finish his feed and gently put his head in my chest, gesturing that he was hurting.
He's an incredible patient, the UBF. He seems to know that I am the person who will make him better. His usual rambunctious and playful ways are replaced with this meek little lamb who will let me wash, clean and spray the wound. Of course this had to happen on Kings Day when the whole of Spain is celebrating their main Christmas event - so I photographed the wound and sent it to my vet. It was decided it was too late for stitches and could wait to be seen until celebrations were over.
By which time his body had done an incredible job of gently healing itself - and the UBF returned to being the enormous, lively, fun-loving 2 year old that he is.
